'Saving Venice' wins the Aquileia Film Festival Award

We are delighted with the news! 3 years after its production, Saving Venice is still part of the conversation, and it's still such an important topic in Italy.

Venice is under attack from climate change. The sea level is rising rapidly. Flooding is becoming more frequent and more extreme. With each inundation of seawater, more salt impregnates the city’s historic buildings. As it crystallises, it rips the bricks, mortar and stone to shreds. The city is crumbling. Venice’s very existence is hanging in the balance.

Can scientists and engineers find ways to protect this unique jewel of architecture, beauty and culture before it’s too late?

Could the answer lie with a multi-billion dollar flood defence barrier? Or do Venetians need help from an ally who has helped their city for hundreds of years - nature?

Aquileia Film Festival is a contest of archaeological films organized by Fondazione Aquileia in collaboration with Archeologia Viva, Firenze Archeofilm, and the support of the Municipality of Aquileia. Three nights dedicated to archaeological films and conversations with leading journalists interviewed by Piero Pruneti, director of the magazine Archeologia Viva. The contest sees a selection of the best international archaeological and historical documentaries being voted by the public and eventually awarded the Premio Aquileia, a prize consisting of a mosaic produced by the School of Mosaic of Friuli.
